Everything You've Been Wondering About Waxing for Men
Men’s waxing. Before you run away screaming, hear us out. Like many other health and beauty services that are traditionally thought of as “feminine”, waxing for men is actually on the rise. The truth is that men can and should put effort into their appearance. Maybe you desire less hair for hygienic or athletic reasons or you just want to give it a try. Regardless of the reason, you should know that you are not alone when it comes to waxing. Read on to learn everything you need to know.
Manscaping, wax on wax, peel and squeal...anyway you say it, you don’t need to run away screaming! Why do we wax? The truth is men are putting time into their appearance and those of us that are looking at you appreciate it! There is nothing sexier than a man who has taken the time to be well groomed. And bonus, if you are an athlete or love a good workout, it's a perfect way to shave some time off your ride or increase your speed in the pool. Cyclists also like to wax their legs to make road rash easier to treat. And finally, a smooth back is way more enjoyable to have massaged than a hairy one, for you and your therapist or partner!
Why should you get waxed rather than shave? Well for starters, waxing is much faster than shaving, it lasts longer and you only need to lay there and relax. Well try to relax. Sure, shaving works for small patches of hair. But having to shave your back while usually ineffective seems pretty impossible unless you have contortionist skills. Waxing is great for larger areas or areas with a lot of hair. You don’t have to wax your entire body but most men should have wax their brows so there are two. Even better if you do a quick nose wax so that you don’t look like a party favor when you sneeze. Of course, if you are a man that loves the ink you already know how much better your tattoos look on smooth skin.
Before the wax. Decide which areas you want to try, pop a couple of anti-inflammatories about an hour before you get there and clean it up! We offer a range of waxing services to fit your needs: back (full and partial), chest, eyebrows, arms, legs, fingers or toes, neck, shoulders, and stomach, as well as an eyebrow, nose and ears package. Now granted we do not offer the brozilian but we do have some people that specialize in that who we are happy to recommend. Prices will vary depending on how much "acreage" you want removed. Before booking keep in mind of when you will be beach ready. Plan your wax for at least five days before your vacation or other big event. Also, make sure to exfoliate the day before your waxing service. You need to remove any dead skin or dirt to prevent ingrown hairs.
During the wax. We promise it is not as painful as you are thinking! Yes, we saw 40-Year-Old Virgin, and have yet to have any loud outbursts, although we hope to one day. Of course different areas are more sensitive than others, but in fact, many first-time waxers become regulars once they realize the pain is definitely worth the results. It also hurts less the more you do it. Don’t worry about looking feminine after your waxing service. Hair M services are made specifically for men. They key is to look like you naturally don’t grow hair in the area. Our professional men’s waxer knows how to blend the hair to give you natural results. On the other hand, if you want to look like Cher we can do that too, but I think we charge extra.
After the wax. You’re done before you know it! After the wax, be sure to follow aftercare instructions to prevent any issues. Your skin will probably be a little red and sensitive. Best to let the skin breathe in loose clothing for a couple of days but if you have a silk shirt be ready to feel like Rico Suave. After a couple of days, the trick is going to be keeping it exfoliated so that you do not get any ingrown hairs. Use a loofah but more importantly use a natural astringent antibacterial soap like Paul Mitchell’s Tea Tree Soap. Your skin might react a little after the wax -- it’s totally normal. Take an antihistamine to reduce swelling, keep it out of direct sun for the first day or so, no hot tubs or too hot of showers. A five-plus day grace period will give your skin time to calm down. Avoid shaving hair between sessions. It needs to be at least ¼ inch long for the wax to grip it. Ready to be a waxing regular? Hair Coloring Is For Men, Too
Many hair services are thought to be “for women”, but truthfully men can enjoy any hair service. Why don’t men traditionally think to get their hair colored? They usually don’t think to go to a men’s shop, or they resort to drugstore dye. Fortunately, Hair M is here to help. Everything at Hair M is specifically for men. That means no Vogue magazine in the waiting area and no Kardashians on the television. You can drink a beer, watch the game and get your hair colored. Hair M specializes overs several options for coloring services for men: grey camouflage, highlighting, bleaching and brolayage. Keep reading to discover why you should try it out!
What is grey camouflage? Exactly what it sounds like: a coloring treatment that masks grey hair. During this quick but effective coloring treatment, your stylist will blend out your greys. Note that you should still keep a few grey streaks. Usually, dyeing your entire head makes it very obvious that you colored your hair. If you use grey camouflage to blend the color with your greys, the results are much more natural. Your stylist will find the best balance of greys to color -- making you look wise, not old.
Why should you try grey camouflage? Many men who receive grey camouflage services say that they feel more competitive in the job market and the dating world. If you want to look as young as you feel, this treatment will definitely take a few years off your appearance. This treatment also helps with another sign of aging: hair loss. If your hair is thinning, the mix of greys and color will give your hair the illusion of depth and texture. Finally, the grey camouflage treatment will give you better results than drugstore boxed dye. Boxed dye is notably bad for your hair. It is also often created for women, who tend to drastically change up their hair. Men need a more subtle formula that is designed specifically for their needs.
What is a “brolayage”? A brolayage is a balayage for men. A brolayage is a hair highlighting technique that creates dimension in your hair. We know what you’re thinking -- and no, you will not leave looking like Justin Timberlake in the 1990s. Your stylist will use a brush to sweep color throughout your hair, creating a natural-looking highlights that go a long way. It’s great for anyone who wants a subtle change. Permanent Color is available for clients who want a solid coverage of greys.
Why should you try a brolayage? Sometimes you just need a change to refresh your look. A brolayage will make you look refreshed and add warmth to your complexion. Don’t worry about getting stuck with frosted tips -- your stylist will add depth and dimension to your hair in a very natural way. Your highlighted strands will make you look like you spent a few days in the sun. It’s the perfect choice for anyone who wants to mix things up without being too obvious.
